Match Ratings - Aberdeen 2 - 4 Rangers

ALLAN MCGREGOR - 8

One strong stop and one outstanding one late on kept us in the lead at a vital time. Red card & restrospective punishment claims are nonsense and best ignored.

JAMES TAVERNIER - 8

Good & bad, but more good than bad! Ice in the veins to hit the third penalty and showed tremendous fitness to rampage into the attack in the dying minutes to set up Defoe's clincher. Huge error giving away the Aberdeen penalty but solid defensively other than that.

JOE WORRALL - 7

Worrall had a good game and has definitely bounced back from the Killie horrorshow. Goldson & him switched Cosgrove over early doors and seemed to handle him a bit better.

CONNOR GOLDSON – 8

Couldn't have been match fit but delivered another big performance when needed. Slightly rocky at the back but came up trumps when we needed him most.

BORNA BARISIC - 4

Not great at all, some excellent deliveries in the first half but lost the ball far too easily which caused the counter for Aberdeen's opener. All over the place in the second half as Aberdeen got joy down his flank every single time.

ROSS MCCRORIE - 7

Terrific out of possession, not so great in possession. With hindsight we got through it and McCrorie more than played his part. Terrific record with him in the team.

RYAN JACK - 7

Excellent offensively and not so good defensively which is an odd turnaround! Played his part in 3 of our goals but I was most pleased with the first. Did so well to pick up the loose ball at the edge of the box and release it quickly to Kent who did the rest. Second half he was poor, but we just had to get through and we did.

SCOTT ARFIELD - 5

Quite anonymous all game to be honest, not sure if he was carrying an injury. Couldn't understand the decision to sub others before him.

DANIEL CANDEIAS – 6

Busy without anything really sticking, however I felt his pace on the break could have been useful to try and get us up the pitch. Wasn't to be, and he was sacrificed for Defoe which I'm not sure we can complain about!

RYAN KENT – 9 MOTM

Quietly starting to become the main creator in the team. Continually effecting games centrally now which is huge for us in terms of breaking down medium to low block defences. Terrific play for the opener and was a constant nuisance in that first half. Again, surprised he came off but agreed with Katic coming on.

ALFREDO MORELOS – 8

The good, the bad and the downright mercurial. Another action packed night for our talisman. Excellent right place right time finish for the opener, bullied the defence all night and a very special second goal which I have to admit I didn't think he had in his locker. Gets needlessly involved in another flashpoint regardless of blame, brutality or intent but you have to take the rough with the smooth I guess.

JERMAINE DEFOE - 6

Extra points for that ice cold finish exactly when we needed it. 3 goals in 3 league games showing exactly what he can bring and why he was brought in to do it.

NIKO KATIC - 3

On late on to shore up the defence and didn't put a foot wrong. The extra man came at a price in terms of keeping possession, but in the end we got it done.

LASSANA COULIBALY - 3

Replaced Arfield on 86 minutes and played a small part. As good as McGregor's instinct save was, Coulibaly was right behind him on the line waiting to head it away.

STEVEN GERRARD - 8

We're a team that's suited to these games because we can play well on the counter as we proved very very well in the first half. We've been criticised over not seeing games out and having the street smarts to get over the line, but that can't be levelled at the manager or the players now after last night. In hindsight getting Defoe on the pitch was vital as it gave the defenders something to think about, and then some.
