Match Ratings - Hamilton 1 - 4 Rangers

Match Ratings from the poorest 4-1 win I've seen in a long time! We really struggled in this game and it was all our own doing. We kept consistently playing down our right hand side rather than using the full width of the pitch, making it so easy for Hamilton to defend against us.

ALLAN MCGREGOR - 7

Didn't have much to do really, absolutely no chance with the equaliser from Boyd.

JAMES TAVERNIER - 8 MOTM

My ratings and I'll do what I like! Not the greatest performance from Tav offensively, but ice cold to step up and take not one but two penalties. 11 for 11 on pens, and 5 goals in his last 6 games. Marry me!

NIKOLA KATIC - 4

A shocking performance from the big Croatian, he looks like the break from the team had the opposite effect than desired! May still be recovering from injury, but surely Worrall would have played in that case. Missed a lot of interceptions, sliced a lot of clearances and generally looked very awkward. Subbed just before the equaliser.

CONNOR GOLDSON - 6

Decent in defence, not so great in possession. The ball seemed to stick at Goldson and it slowed our tempo right down. Hamilton were content to let him have the ball and to be fair to him, his options were limited for forward passes.

ANDY HALLIDAY  - 6

Solid showing, didn't let anyone down again. We do struggle with balance when he plays as he offers very little offensively, but can't be too critical.

JORDAN ROSSITER - 7

Solid showing on his comeback. Neat and tidy in possession and snapped into tackles well. Took a couple of hits which will help him no end. Question marks as to why he was still on the park at 80 minutes, and it showed with a tired looking challenge on Boyd which gave him space to hit the equaliser.

LASSANA COULIBALY - 5

Arrived back from international duty on Friday and it showed here. He looked very leggy and wasn't his usual industrious self. He did win the ball back for our first goal but other than that not much to write home about.

OVIE EJARIA - 6

Showed some flashes without really threatening bar one shot in the second half. Our insistence on continuing to play down the right despite Tav, Coulibaly & Candeias having off days meant he wasn't involved as much as he would have liked.

DANIEL CANDEIAS - 5

Candeias evil twin turned up today. Nothing came off whatsoever, frustrating that he can put in performances like that in these games but come up trumps in others. Doesn't stop running of course but end product was next to non-existent until the game was won.

RYAN KENT - 8

Our best player over the last 6 weeks and we barely got him involved in the first half. We continued to funnel play down the right rather than give him the ball at every oppotunity. The one time we mixed it up and broke through the middle, Morelos sets him free with a lovely ball bettered only by his fantastic chipped finish.

ALFREDO MORELOS - 7

Totally starved of service and midfield runners due to our strange approach to the game. Occupied the centre halves well and either scored or had a direct hand in all 4 goals. Again, he would have 100% missed that finish last season.

JOE WORRALL - 3

On for 10 minutes after Gerrard eventually put Katic out of his misery.

EROS GREZDA - 3

We needed this substitution about an hour earlier, confused as to why Gerrard waited until we had been pegged back to make the change. He didn't have a huge impact but at least has a bit of pace about him and makes defenders think.

ROSS MCCRORIE - 2

On for 3 minutes after we went 2-1 up to help shore up the team.

STEVEN GERRARD - 5

Some real criticism for me for Gerrard in this game. It was almost a carbon copy of the Livingston game and we made the same mistakes and a better team than Hamilton would have given us a massive scare here.

We need to increase the tempo at the start of away games, be brave in possession and equally be brave enough to recognise something isn't working - which was abundantly clear after around 20 minutes - and make the necessary changes to the team.
