Match Ratings - Hearts 1 - 2 Rangers

Our first big win away from home domestically, terrific result!

ALLAN MCGREGOR - 8

Another excellent save first half but Sunday was more about the centre halves than the keeper as he had very little to do other than that.

JAMES TAVERNIER - 9

Considering he’s not ‘captain material’ whatever that means these days, he doesn’t have put in some inspirational performances. After a quiet few weeks offensively, he wasn’t terrific here. His delivery was frighteningly good, unlucky not to get the assist for the first given how good the ball in was, he’ll just have to make do with the assist for Morelos. The best full back in the country on this form.

GARETH MCAULEY - 8

You know exactly what you’re going to get and he delivers exactly that. Mr dependable already, you’ll never see him done for pace or caught out of position. Constantly organising and cajoling everyone around him. A captain.

CONOR GOLDSON - 9 MOTM

As good as McAuley was, Goldson surpasses that. An absolute wall at the back, headed everything clear and picked up a goal for his troubles. His best performance for me, certainly domestically.

ANDY HALLIDAY - 8

Halliday was targeted, as you’d expect any half decent team to try and do. Unfortunate that he picked up a knock prior to the Hearts goal and maybe wasn’t as focused as he could have been. Excellent thereafter.

OVIE EJARIA - 6

6/10 is potentially bordering on generous given his first half display, but in the second half there were no negative performances. Is showing signs of this being his first season as a professional and needs a bit of reinforcement to help him.

LASSANA COULIBALY - 6

Similar to Ejaria, they ceded the midfield way too easily for me in the opening 30 minutes  his passing is still very wayward and erratic, so we need to add some finesse to midfield to complement.

SCOTT ARFIELD - 7

Another solid showing before his red card which I personally thought was harsh but still disappointing nonetheless. Need someone to step up in the next two games as he’s became essential to how we play.

EROS GREZDA - 7

Really positive performance by the Albanian, could have had a goal and tracked back very diligently in support of Halliday. Very interested to see him and Barisic on the left as they look like they could complement each other very well.

DANIEL CANDEIAS - 7

Terrific ball in at 0-0 which Morelos was unlucky with. Does so much dirty work to let others flourish.

ALFREDO MORELOS - 9

Absolutely irreplaceable to us at the moment and not just the goals. The winner here was his 7th in a row domestically but he offers so much more. Yes he missed a couple of half chances but he was a force of nature throughout but especially in that last 20 minutes when we were down to 10 and needed an outball. There’s a difference between causing aggro needlessly and the type of controlled aggression and deliberate wind up tactics he employed. Fantastic to see him grow.

RYAN JACK - 5

Replaced Grezda on the hour to shore things up. Did his job well.

KYLE LAFFERTY - 4

I think he was the most pumped up person in Tynecastle when he came on. Put himself about well, another energetic sub performance.

ROSS MCCRORIE - 3

Replaced Coulibaly with 10 minutes to go as we closed the game down

STEVEN GERRARD - 9

Another game, another red card, another 4-3-2 formation. Can we go down to ten every week? We look so comfortable!
