Match Ratings - Rangers 4 - 0 Ayr United

Adam returns with the match ratings from last night's 4-0 win against Ayr United in the Betfred Cup.

WES FODERINGHAM - 7

Decent tip over the bar from Robbie Crawford (no, not that one) at 0-0. Looked to be going over anyway, but was a good stop.

JOHN FLANAGAN - 6

Limited going forward, relatively solid in defence. Could have given away a penalty at 1-0 after a tangle with Shankland. Seems to suit left back a lot more than right.

NIKOLA KATIC - 7

Such a threat from set pieces. Goal came at a decent time after a relatively slow start for Rangers. Pretty much game over from that point. Not much to do defensively, and looked comfortable playing on the right hand side for a change in Goldson's absence.

JOE WORRALL - 7

Decent second outing for the big Englishman. Looks keen to bring the ball forward and has a more than decent turn of pace.

ANDY HALLIDAY - 9

Fantastic performance from the captain for the night. Two brilliant assists for Middleton's goals, the first in particular was a lovely weighted pass. Went on a few mazy dribbles into the bargain and definitely looked like he enjoyed himself.

ROSS MCCRORIE - 7

Another promising defensive midfield performance from McCrorie. Wins tackles he has no right to and covers a lot of ground in that position. His first touch and passing are still quite erratic, but that will come with time.

OVIE EJARIA - 8

Glad his injury didn't keep him out for much longer. Pressed quite well in the first half and his touch is incredible. One move in the first half it seemed like the ball was glued to his foot. A really strong showing, that ability to take the ball in any situation and play a pass will be vital for us.

GRAHAM DORRANS - 7

Decent when pressing out of possession again without having a huge impact on proceedings. Will be happy to get these minutes under his belt. Still have concerns over whether he has the engine required for us in midfield after so long out.

RYAN KENT - 9

Kent was unplayable again, particularly in the first half. Tremendous ball in for Katic opener and generally looked like he enjoyed himself. Has played a lot of games recently but always seems to be able to go back to the well and dig out another mazy run. Being slightly critical, he still hangs onto the ball a second or two too long at times, but that will improve in time.

ALFREDO MORELOS - 7

Good performance from Fredo in the 50-odd minutes he was on the park. His goal was typical, fighting to keep the ball and managing to bundle in a scrappy finish. Definitely a foul against him in the first half so he can feel aggrieved to be booked and miss the semi.

GLENN MIDDLETON - 9 MOTM

Been reminiscent of Neil McCann for me since he broke into the team and never more so than last night. Clinical for his first two goals and constantly looked to take his man on and commit defenders. Unlucky not to get his first career hat trick. I had thought he might be a bit of a one trick pony but the last few games he's found himself in central positions a lot more and can certainly create from more than just a run down the wing.

EROS GREZDA - 5

Showed bursts of quality and looks to have a rapid turn of pace. Dribbling will be a huge asset for us when we're looking to break down teams playing a low block. Just needs minutes and match fitness now, but looks to have something about him.

JORDAN ROSSITER - 5

For someone so injury prone, he doesn't half snap into tackles on his return! Covered ground well and put himself about. Felt he could have done better with his shot from distance, but think he might have had a nosebleed!

STEPHEN KELLY - 4

On for his debut when the game was just about over. Looked neat and tidy in possession and has a good engine. Reminds me a bit of Steven Davis as a player, but a long way to go. Management team certainly speak very highly of him.

STEVEN GERRARD - 9

Again, a near flawless showing. Squad rotated very well over the last week, the 3 centre halves played two games each, Dorrans/Ejaria/Rossiter got some decent game time as well to increase the options in there. Continuing to impress and say all the right things.
