I don't think anyone expected this result pre-game! Player ratings are largely academic in such an emphatic victory but here they are anyway:
ALLAN MCGREGOR - 7
No chance at the goal, that was Motherwell's only shot on target. Pipe and slippers out from 35 minutes onwards.
JAMES TAVERNIER - 9 MOTM
Unless you've been living on the moon you'll probably know I'm always going to do this, given half a chance. I'm serious though. Back to his best down that right wing, dominated all day and his crossing was back on the money after a few poor weeks. Two terrific assists but MOTM for a crucial penalty (two penalties technically). The 4th time this season he's stepped up at 1-1 in a big game and delivered a penalty. 8/8 on penalties this season, 9 goals overall and a further 12 assists in all competitions. Remarkable.
NIKO KATIC - 5
Jaded first half, lost possession a couple of times and was turned way too easily for the goal. Got Halliday out of trouble with a decent tackle, but not the best of halves for the big Croatian.
JOE WORRALL - 7
Decent showing overall, didn't do anything wrong but didn't have too much to do!
ANDY HALLIDAY - 8
I like him in this left back role, I think he will struggle more against better wide players - but no more so than Flanagan - and he offers a good deal more in terms of forward movement and link up play.
RYAN JACK - 8
Really good performance from Jack, his best in a couple of months. Did what he does best, kept the ball moving well and even managed to withstand a nosebleed to get forward and set up Arfield's second!
OVIE EJARIA - 8
The way he wins the ball back is incredible, he's like Stretch Armstrong in there. Vital in these games as he'll always try something unorthodox whether its dropping the shoulder or trying a pass or shot out of the blue.
SCOTT ARFIELD - 9
Another who has looked very below par recently, if we're being kind but from the off we just seemed to find his very clever runs with our passes, something we're too guilty of not doing very often. Terrific finishes and his goal tally is now starting to look very pleasing indeed.
EROS GREZDA - 9
Close one on the MOTM front for me, I thought he started quite slow but delivered a couple of really nice balls into the box. Second half he was electric, driving at defenders and committing them. Very nice finish for his first, shifting his weight and drilling a low drive from the edge of the area. Impressed with his positioning for his header, most players would drift back out to the penalty spot but he anticipated the looping cross coming in and met it well.
GLENN MIDDLETON - 9
Capped off a very good week personally with a goal and assist. He is absolutely fearless flying down that wing and was up against a very good player in Chris Cadden. His delivery from the wing and from dead balls is very very good for someone so young, and his finish on his weaker foot wasn't half bad either!
ALFREDO MORELOS - 8
A header! A peach of a header no less! His usual self throughout the 50 minutes or so he was on the park, buzzing into everything and getting involved.
GARETH MCAULEY - 8
OK, there was little in the way of attacking threat from Motherwell, but the big Northern Irishman absolutely strolled his league debut here. Constantly cajoling Worrall & moving the defence and midfield around, he was impressive and never put a foot wrong. Interested to see how he does against a pacier team, but it's never something he's relied on so suspect he will be fine.
KYLE LAFFERTY - 5
On for Morelos in the second half and you could tell he was just itching to get a goal! Didn't come off for him, but was good to see him back and pumping the crowd up at 6-1 to go for more goals.
SERGE ATAKAYI - 2
I was excited to see Serge and he looked very sharp and quick when he replaced Middleton in the second half. Unfortunately took a whack at the stage where Motherwell just resorted to kicking everyone, and he had to come off as we finished with 10 men.
STEVEN GERRARD - 8
He said post match he wants us to play on the front foot, be ruthless and be aggressive and I don't think anyone could argue that wasn't the case here! Good use of subs, good use of players who haven't had much game time and the squad will go away for the break buzzing. Interested to see the changes we look to make during the break, as we'll have two weeks to work on things that aren't going so well.
