Match Ratings - Villarreal 2 - 2 Rangers

Adam is back with the match ratings for tonight's impressive 2-2 draw away to Villarreal in Spain.

ALLAN MCGREGOR - 8

He saves his best for when we need him most. Outstanding save from Victor Ruiz on 60 minutes which kept us in the game. Fantastic as a sweeper keeper in the first half as well. Class act.

JAMES TAVERNIER - 8

An outstanding 90 minutes from the Captain fresh off the back of sealing his new contract. For once I thought his defensive play far outshone his attacking play. Made some crucial interceptions, blocked crosses and did just about enough to put Bacca off right at the death. Fantastic surging run to set up the first goal, definite penalty had Arfield not scored and he would have buried that too.

CONNOR GOLDSON - 9 MOTM

Solid as hell, yet again. Slight mix up with Worrall right at the start for Bacca's wonder striker then kept an excellent striker in his back pocket for most of the evening. The buy of the season so far.

JOE WORRALL - 8

Not the best starts, but I think he was very unlucky with the ricochet. Didn't let it faze him, came on to a really excellent game. Assured in possession, strong in the tackle. Looks to have a decent touch. Can see a 3 man defence coming over the horizon very very soon.

BORNA BARISIC - 7

Up and down for Barisic. Really slack to let Moreno in for Villarreal's second, you can't give a player like that so much time. In saying that, what a run and ball in for the second equaliser. Have we got two Tav's?!

ANDY HALLIDAY - 8

An excellent performance again from Halliday. Who would have thought he would be turning these performances in 10 weeks ago? Versatility was key when Barisic went off and as has been the case all season, didn't let anyone down.

SCOTT ARFIELD - 7

He was frustrating me for the first hour. Slack in possession, a mile off in the tackle, he just couldn't get into the game. He was vital in the last half an hour though, took his goal excellently after finally getting up in support of Lafferty. Could have won it at the death, but he looked out on his feet.

HEART & HAND'S LASSANA COULIBALY - 6

The poorest of our central midfielders today for me, that might be controversial. I expected him to dominate the midfield a lot more than he did, but he never gave up and never hid.

RYAN KENT - 6

Not a great performance by Kent tonight, stuck manfully to his task but just didn't offer much in the way of keeping possession and launching counter attacks.

DANIEL CANDEIAS - 7

Similar to Kent, he was excellent on Sunday but below par here. He gets an extra point for setting up Arfield's goal, but he won't be happy with his overall display.

KYLE LAFFERTY - 7

Stuck to his task manfully up front with zero support centrally or wide. It was a frustrating night for the big man. When he got his chance from Barisic cross he took it, that's all you can ask for away from home.

GLENN MIDDLETON - 6

Excellent. To come in against a team at this level when we're chasing the game and play with as much confidence and bravery as he did was very very impressive. Such a clever slide rule ball through for Barisic to set up Lafferty, he must start on Sunday.

ROSS MCCRORIE - 3

On late on to replace Candeias, shored things up well and made a couple of decent interceptions.

GRAHAM DORRANS - 3

Back from injury and thrown in for the last 5 minutes. Excellent footwork to set up Arfield's chance in stoppage time. Could be a vital player if we can get him match fit.

STEVEN GERRARD - 8

If he could just do his half time team talk before the game then we'd likely get even better results! Big decision to bring Worrall in and it just about paid off. Middleton substitution changed the game for me, so deserves credit there.
